Copyright & content reuse

The short version: quote freely with attribution and a link; do not republish wholesale; families always keep ownership of what they contribute.

Last updated: August 2026

Who owns what

Text and illustrations written for this site - the heritage pages, articles, diagrams and charts - are © Mishra.info / Dhruv Mishra unless a page credits someone else.

Family material contributed by members - vanshavalis, family histories, photographs, documents - remains the property of the people who sent it. Contributors grant this site a permission to display it, nothing more; that permission can be withdrawn at any time and the material comes down. Details are in the privacy policy.

Profile pages under the identity service are the member's own content, owned by them.

Third-party names and marks mentioned on the site - archives, institutions, publications - belong to their owners, and a mention is not an endorsement in either direction.

What you may do

  • Quote excerpts from any page, with attribution to Mishra.info and a link to the page quoted
  • Print or save pages for personal and family use, including for family-history files
  • Use the downloadable templates (the vanshavali sheet, the interview sheet) freely, share them onward, and adapt them for your own family - that is what they are for
  • Link to any page, with or without asking

Attribution in the form "Source: Mishra.info, [page title], [link]" is enough anywhere.

What needs permission

  • Republishing whole pages or articles, on websites, in apps, or in print
  • Commercial reuse of the site's text or illustrations
  • Reusing contributed family material - trees, photographs, family histories - anywhere off this site. This one is not the site's permission to give: it belongs to the family concerned, and requests are passed on to them
  • Presenting the site's content as your own, or using the Mishra.info name in a way that implies the site endorses or operates something it does not

Asking is easy and usually answered yes: use the contact form.

Reporting an infringement

If something on this site infringes your copyright - or reproduces your family's material without the consent it claims to have - report it through the contact form with:

  • the URL of the page concerned
  • what exactly is yours, and where it appeared first
  • how you can be reached

Reports are acknowledged within 7 days. Where a claim checks out, the material comes down promptly; where the site believes the use is proper, you get the reasons in writing. Family-consent disputes are treated with priority over everything else, and removal is the default while they are looked into.

The same route works in reverse: if you find this site's content republished elsewhere without attribution, a note through the contact form is appreciated.

Questions about any of this, or a request to have your information removed, go through the contact form and are answered by a person. Contact.
