Heritage content
The heritage pages document traditions as they have been practised and recorded. Sources differ, oral traditions vary between families and regions, and scholarship keeps moving. Despite care and cited sources, any page may contain errors, and none of it is guaranteed complete, current or correct.
Two consequences worth stating outright:
- On ritual questions, your family's own purohit governs. Where anything here differs from the tradition your purohit follows - a pravara list, a sanskara sequence, a shakha practice - his recension is the one that applies to your family, not this site's summary
- On lineage questions, your family's own records govern. This site explains how to find and read them; it does not certify anyone's descent, gotra or community membership, and no page here should be cited as proof of any of those
Corrections are actively wanted: the contact form is the route, and sourced corrections are applied with credit if you want it.
Not professional advice
Nothing on this site is legal, financial, medical or matrimonial advice.
In particular, summaries of law - such as the notes on sagotra and sapinda marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act on the gotra page - describe the position in general terms as at the time of writing. Statutes are amended and courts refine them; for any actual decision, consult the current text of the law and a qualified lawyer.
Likewise, descriptions of archives, fees and procedures - panda registers, land-record offices, foreign archives - reflect how these generally work, not a promise of what any office will do on the day you visit.

The identity service
The email and subdomain service is governed by the terms of service, including its liability section, and by the refund and renewal policy. Where this page and those pages overlap, those pages prevail for the service.
